Best of British Innovation to Showcase
It is just 16 days to go now until our Investment Showcase on 18th October in London. I always get excited at this time of year. Being able to bring together 20 of our best investment opportunities from the 250 companies we support in our incubators into one event is always great, both for us and for our investor community. After all where else can investors see so many companies in one place. For my colleagues at SETsquared it is a time to celebrate the hard work the centres put into ensuring these companies have the right support around them to put them on the path to accelerated growth. They spend time with the companies getting them to hone their investment pitch but also to ensure they have a clear strategy which they can articulate. This is probably why we at SETsquared buck the trend with a 90% survival rate for graduating companies from our incubators. The norm is around 67%.
I have been looking at some of the highlights from our past successes stories. Revolymer, spinout from University of Bristol, raised £25m when they floated in July on AIM. Karus Therapeutics, spinout from University of Southampton raised $7.6m in September as the first tranche of investment that will ultimately fund early clinical trials on their medicines for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and cancer and Tidal Generation, who were based in the Bristol SETsquared Incubator until July 2011, was bought by Alstom this year for an undisclosed sum. Fantasy Shopper, based at the incubator at University of Exeter, who were due to pitch at last years event pulled out as their talks with investors were already going so well. They went on to raise $3.3m at the beginning of the year from top-tier venture capital firms Accel Partners and NEA and key investors in Groupon.
All these companies have been involved in past Investment Showcases so on 18th October, our investor community are going to see the winners of the future. If you are an investor and would like to attend, please email email@example.com
